Coming in late April: Endangered Species Fact Sheets!
Summer Schultz’s Honors Ecology students are becoming local “experts” on endangered species in the
1) The name of the author
2) The scientific and common name(s) of the species
3) Life history details for the species:
a. What they eat and who eats them: their trophic levels, and how they fit into the food web.
b. Where they live: ocean/freshwater/river etc, or on land? Underground, in trees, etc? Are they found only in the Bay area, or do they have a wider range?
c. How they reproduce / life cycle facts: are they "r" or "K?" Generalist or specialist? Long or short lived? Do they care for their young?
4) Why they are endangered or threatened (HIPPO issues: what factors are causing their decline?)
5) Do they have a recovery plan in place yet? If so, what is it?
6) Are they continuing to decline, stabilizing, or recovering?
7) A brief discussion of, and link to, at least one recent news article (less than 1 year old) or scientific paper about the species in the Bay ecosystem.
8) At least one picture, photo, or video clip of the species.
9) Optional diagrams, charts, or maps that would give more information about the species.
Our fact sheets will be two pages long, not including photos or other graphics. We will follow
