Offshore drilling: Obama clears way for oil drilling off Virginia, other coasts - baltimoresun.com
We need to heat our houses, fuel our cars, and power our factories. Like it or not, we use oil for all of these purposes.
We could continue to buy much of our oil from OPEC (the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Companies) while wars and scarcity cause oil prices to rise and rise. We could attempt to produce more domestic oil, and reduce our reliance on imports. Or, we could try to end our dependence on all oil, by making drastic changes in the ways we produce and use energy.
Some see offshore drilling as an answer to our energy needs. Others contend that the environmental risks are too great, and the payoff is far too small.
Offshore drilling: is this a good idea?

Off Drilling is alright... As long as they dont use it too MUCH! The increase use of off drilling, rises the chances of oil spills which can damage an ecosystem harshly.
Personally, I'm neutral about the concept of offshore drilling. 1 because we've lived this way for so long do we really know how to abandon oil drilling. 2 because drilling oil from the ocean create water pollution and bring a great deal of harm the marine life living there.
I think the offshore drilling idea is both good and bad. First off Virginia will have more revenue and more jobs for its' citizen if we plan to do this. It also is a bad thing because god forbid that there might be an oil spill in the process of drilling for the oil!! I guess will just have to see what they decide to do!
I think off shore drilling is a good thing. It is easily transported within and between countries. There is a huge supply of oil that can be used because of the drilling. There's a low cost and land use as well.
To be honest I am agreeing both ways on this issue. We need more oil, but we would also be killing animals and dangering the water. Oil is expensive but for us right now it is a necessity. We are tying to decrease pollution in the Chesapeake bay, but by drilling we will be increasing. It is a lose-lose situation that we are just going to have to deal with
I do think that offshore drilling could help a lot of things, such as high gas prices. But there is no doubt that America needs to be producing its own oil. If offshore drilling were to take place, then that would cost a lot of money. If something as far as an oil spill were to take place due to offshore drilling then that would cost more money. Money that America does not have.
This procsedure would take an impecable amount of time though it is a start to solving the fossil fuel issue. the emission of CO2 into the atomsphere just adds to our greenhouse "problems"..........FAIL.
If u really wana make a "change" make me president. -Dee
oh i spelled "procedure" wrong. gnr
i agree with President Obama because he actually knows what he is doing to tis country unlike other presidents. even though the decision he made could possibly loose jobs for people, it could also bring in new jobs for people.
